Send faxes over the internet

Is it possible to broadcast multiple faxes over the internet? It would be vastly cheaper if I could use the web.

It may not be appropriate for your purpose, but you can send free faxes using a service provided by The Phone Company's Remote Printer Service (www.tpc.int/tpc_home.html). You send a fax as an email to an address containing the fax number. The address is formatted like this: remote-printer.address_1/address_2@fax_number.iddd.tpc.int.

Here, address_1 and address_2 are the name and address of the recipient and fax_number is the fax number. There must be no spaces in the address or fax number (use underscores where needed in the address) and the number must be in international format, so for the UK replace the first 0 by 44.

This solution might not be appropriate for you because you don't get much control over the appearance of the fax and it is delivered with an attached advert for the service provider.

There are other solutions for faxing via the web, but most require you to pay for the call that delivers the fax (someone has to). There is a useful FAQ about internet faxing at www.savetz.com/fax/, however, it may not be completely up to date as the original author no longer has the time to update it.
